How likely am I to get pregnant while breast feeding and supplementing?

Will breast feeding and supplementing hurt a baby?

My wife is breast feeding our son but she isn’t producing enough milk. So we’re feeding him until the the milk is gone but find out that he is still hungry. So we are having to fill him up with formula. Is this going to hurt or affect the baby and would it affect the the woman from producing anymore milk.
