When Do Newborn Infants Begin To Sleep At Night More, And Are More Alert During The Day?

by Chris

I think I’m going crazy. I can’t really sleep during the day because of my 13 month old. My newborn is 2 weeks now, and I have to nurse her 3 times during the night, but she takes long naps during the day. When should this reverse?? AHHHHHH!

I know how you feel, I have a five year old, a two year old and a 14 week old and my husband works on the oil rigs so he’s away for three weeks at a time!!!
I’ve tried everything to keep my baby awake during the day but I think you just have to wait till they are ready I’m afraid.
Mine has just started sleeping through the night but it’s only been three nights now. My 1st slept through at just 3 weeks and my second at about 9 weeks, all baby’s are different but once she sleeps through at couple of nights you’ll soon forget how exhausted you feel right now.
Maybe you could ask you husband/friend if they could look after the kids for a few hours at the weekend so you could get some well earned sleep?! Good luck.

My baby finally gave me some rest at night and fun, alert moments during the day around 1 1/2 months. It was amazing the first day she seemed alert and not crying all the time! I also breast feed, so yeah, the first night sleeping through was so wonderful. I wanted so badly to pump and make my hubby feed her!
Many babies are different but please just have patience!

Try and teach your two week older to stay awake a bit longer during the day. After your baby feeds undress it change its nappy, try everything to keep it awake longer during the day. I don’t know if will work on a 2 week old baby but try.

For my son it wasn’t until he was 8 weeks(he was formula fed) that he started sleeping around 8 hours/night.
