I have the potty chair and he wakes up from his naps with a dry diaper. I just wanted some suggestions on the best way to start. I am hoping he will take to it easily. But if not some good advise always helps. Thanks everyone. This is a first in potty training experience and need some help.
Yung, thank you for the advise. I have always thought it couldn’t hurt to get it in his head that that is what is supposed to be done. Why would I have to wait? He can understand the concept just fine. but I am willing to take the time to be patient.

way too early in my opinion
to wait a few months then ask again
i started at 15 months. so screw all those who say it is too early. however i do have to admit it has been longer than i was hoping.
every night while filling up the bath we would sit him on it and ask him to pee. i would even squirt his winkie with a little warm water to get things moving. he peed and we got all excited clapped and gave him an M&M.
now he is 20 months and will go in there and pee if i ask him too. however he is still too young to tell me before he has to pee. nothing can make that process faster. so until he figures that out you are going to be sitting and waiting.
but i find nothing wrong with having the potty chair there and continually asking him if he needs to pee.
My Aunt was potty trained at 14 months. And every child learns at different paces, so I don’t agree with what the other people said. It’s NOT too early. I know an easy way for boys is to give them a target to shoot at, like Cheerios in the toilet!
Hope this was some what helpful! Good luck!
I do not think that is to young as I started training around 18 months with my first and with my second around 16.He is now 18 months.Like Yung said he does not know how to tell me before he goes,so he just goes around with undies or naked.I just ask him continuously if he needs to go and he will go number 1 and 2 but he wont tell me that he has to go.
It can do things to the little mind. later in life it will show up. I learned the hard way not to start till 2 1/2. But really you, as the parent have to be the most ready cause of the patience factor. A huge help is for the child to see other children who are trained or almost trained going about their business.
wait until he is 2 and has better control of his bladder and bowels… plus a 14 month yr old doesn’t know how to aim his penis…
Hi, as you say – take your time and be very patient.
He is very young so I would start by introducing the potty through a teddy bear – “oh look, teddy is using the potty” “good teddy” give the teddy the reward.
Allow him time to explore it before starting the training -it is a huge step for him but if you are saying he understands the concept then go for it.
Oh, best time 2 start is right after a nap – this will give a better chance of a successfully visit then hopefully encourage him to continue.
Good luck. x
