Clang! Clang! Clang! The fire truck is pulling out of the station. But wait! Where is the firefighter going? To the potty! Even firefighters go to the potty!
Toddlers are uneasy about toilet training. And in most cases, even if they know they have to go, sometimes they are too busy to bother. In this hilarious gate-fold story, each person–from a firefighter on the way to answer a fire alarm to a zoo keeper on the way to feed the polar bears–stops what they are doing to go to the potty. With humor and no pedantics, toddlers learn that everybody uses the potty.

True, it seems more geared towards boys, but having a boy myself, I am glad to have it! My son LOVES firefighters / fire trucks; so, to know that even firefighters (and policemen and construction workers and baseball players) go to the potty is motivational! I thought it was great that they actually showed the characters on the potty reading, as well as standing and using a urinal. Sometimes kids don’t want to have to sit and wait on the potty, but to see firefighters sitting and reading on the potty is inpiring. I suggested that my son take this book and “read” it on the potty. He thought the book was so cool that he had to share it with his dad during dinner and take it to school! Let’s just hope it truly motivates him! I believe it’s one of my favorite potty books and we have m-a-n-y! Brilliant. As an aside, we also have “Pirate potty” ([...]), which is very cute, but my son is more inspired by firefighters.

My son ADORES this book. He has been doing well toilet training (27 months) but seemed to need a little more to push him to independence. This book is his new favorite! He asks to sit on the potty just to read it (we have a book basket next to the potty~I recommend this to keep kids busy while they wait for success). He really seems to have gotten the idea that going potty is the grown up thing to do. Just finished 24 hours of dryness…. Fingers crossed!
Con: Not great for girls, role model-wise, except for the lady doctor, it is all males.

I think it is helpful for my son see the firefighter (and others) on the potty. The ending is funny and gets him talking about going to the potty (or at least Watching. heehee) It is not an instructional book and does not rhyme, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

I must admit this is not my usual reading, however, I bought a couple of copies to give to my niece and nephew. Of course it became necessary for me to read it first. The lesson is clear for the little ones. The colors in the book are vibrant and will keep any toddler interested. Ultimately, it should bring a level of success to parents and child. I think this might be required reading for Mom and Dad to make the trials of training more enjoyable. Jim Fargiano, author of The Spoken Words of Spirit: Lessons From The Other Side

We LOVE this book in our house. My daughter, 18 months, and son, 3 years, ask for it often. Neither of them are trained yet (he’s struggling, she’s just starting) but they love to lift the flap and we all say “to the potty!” together. The people in the book are “disappearing” and you have to find them and they are always in the bathroom. The author repeats the phrase “to the potty” every time so it’s a great way to get the kids to join in. The words are corny, but kids love it. It’s a different potty book then just providing instructions on how to go potty. The one complaint I have is that it is for boys; my daughter loves it and there are so many professions/characters, but they are all male but one! We need a “girl” version or just a policewoman or female airplane pilot in the pictures!
