get more 0-3 than newborn. Preemie outfit for the hospital pic and coming home outfit. Baby will change several times a day keep that in mind.
Baby basics: The first year
Get about 7 newborn sleepers, baby grows fast and will not be in newborn size for long. But when they first come home they are just little peanuts and you don’t want them drowning in 3 month clothes. You’ll most likely need clothes from every size. My baby was in her newborn size for one month, three month clothes for 2 months now wearing six month clothes and she is only 41/2 months. Good luck.
I will recommend you wait until you know the sex of the baby, and if you are having a baby shower you will get plenty of clothes. You don’t know how big your baby is going to be some babies never fit on newborn clothes. The sizes on baby clothes are completely screwed up. My baby girl is average size and she’s 9 months and wears 18 months size clothing. Every single mother i met said their baby had so many clothes when they were newborns that sometimes only wore them once.
congrats on the little one and good luck
you are gonna need onesies and socks mostly I wouldnt buy a whole lot until you know the babies sex yellow ususally goes for boys and girls start getting the 0-3 months and 3-6 moths tehy should last a while dont forget to stock up on diapers sizes 1&2 you go through so much of those fast> Good Luck!
I would start out with newborn, 0-3 months, and 3-6 months. That way you are prepared for the first 6 months (sooner or later, depending on the baby’s weight and height). It wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and get TONS of wipes, you can never have enough of those! Get some detergent too–most mommies prefer Dreft! Oh—go ahead and grab a few bottles of infant tylenol, mylicon, teething gel, desitin, bath gels and shampoos, lotions, batteries (AA, C, and D), etc. This will save you from having to go out in the middle of the night or spend tons of money once the baby is here.
I agree with Diana. Resist the urge to buy baby clothes before knowing the sex. Spend your time and money getting other essentials. I bought clothes before I knew the sex and it was a waste because when you know the sex you can pick out waaaay cuter stuff. The choices are way more limited for neutral things.
That being said, buy clothes up to a year. The first year is full of the most expenses so better to be prepared. Plus, you can get great deals by buying this season for the same season next year. You’ll get a lot of newborn stuff so wait until after the shower to fill in your gaps. How much you need depends on your personality. Just buy about 5 of each basic in each size (sleepers, onesies, cotton pants, etc) then add as you see you need more. Buy tons of bibs! I have about 40 and sometimes have to wash more than once a week. I’d go to Babies R Us website; they have a registry list that should be helpful.
0-3 but not alot the baby will grow quickly
You should definitely get some clothes in sizes up to 6 months. For the first couple weeks, everything was huge on my son, but he grew really fast. I think he was in 3-6 month sizes by 9 weeks. I would get mostly sleep n’ plays in the larger sizes. You can never have too many pajamas, and usually they are not too warm or too cool, depending on when your baby will wear them. It seems like some brands run much smaller than others, so check if there’s a weight listed, too.
In newborn sizes, I recommend gowns for overnight. They are open at the bottom for easy access during middle-of-the-night diaper changes.
Everyone had good suggestions, however I will say this. Do not go hog wild on newborn. The baby may wear that, but if you have a larger baby, he/she won’t be able to wear it or it’ll be snug quick. Get some, but don’t take the tags off so you can return them if necessary. My son was born 4 days early and weighed 8lbs 12oz! So he was still technically in newborn but it was snug. And 0-3 fit so much better and didn’t ahve to fight to get it on and off. So I would bring one newborn and one 0-3 outfit to the hospital. But I would mainly concentrate on 0-3 b/c even newborns can wear that size comfortably.
